We have a ritual of purifying the skin through family and friends applying a turmeric paste to the bride and groom. The paste has anti-inflammatory properties so is said to cleanse the skin, the Hindu version of a pre-wedding facial! Followed by the Mehndi night where guests can get their henna done, henna is said to symbolise prosperity and good luck.
A Hindu wedding ceremony usually takes place in front of a sacred fire, where there's various rituals, including the exchange of garlands, tying of the sacred wedding thread, and taking seven vows while walking around the fire. This will be followed by and dinner an evening reception.
